The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a warning to its members and supporters to avoid any involvement with the coalition movement in the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Ilorin by the party’s secretary, Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode, the PDP revealed it is aware of efforts by certain individuals and political actors to entice its members into the newly formed coalition. The statement clarified, “The PDP in Kwara State, under the leadership of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has no connection whatsoever with the coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any group outside our party’s established structure.”
The party urged its members to remain vigilant and not be swayed by “stranded and unpopular” politicians who, after deserting the PDP, are now attempting to gain relevance by misusing Saraki’s name to promote their new political venture. The PDP emphasized its success in the September 2024 local government elections, despite the absence of these individuals, highlighting the strong support it continues to receive from Kwara residents, even amid alleged result manipulation by the ruling party.
The statement challenged these politicians to campaign on their own merits rather than leveraging Saraki’s legacy. It reaffirmed Saraki’s commitment to the PDP and his active role in unifying the party for a strong performance in the 2027 general elections.
“The Kwara PDP remains united, focused, and loyal to its principles. We urge all members to ignore invitations or pressure to join the coalition and stay steadfast under the PDP banner,” the statement concluded.
