Kogi Varsity Lecturer Dies In Hotel Room After Alleged Encounter With Student

A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, has died under controversial circumstances after reportedly checking into a hotel with a 200-level female student of the institution.

Sources familiar with the incident said Dr Ibikunle, reputed for his strictness among students, checked into the hotel three days ago in the student’s company, identified as an indigene of the Ebira ethnic group and a student in the Department of Social Studies Education.

Unconfirmed reports allege that the married lecturer consumed multiple energy drinks before the encounter. The first round of their alleged intimacy reportedly passed without incident, but he allegedly collapsed while attempting a second round.

An alarm was subsequently raised, leading to his death being reported to the authorities. The student, now in police custody, has reportedly denied any wrongdoing, claiming ignorance of how the lecturer died.

However, the police are said to be probing the possibility of foul play, including suspicion of poisoning.

In the meantime, news of the lecturer’s death has gone viral among students, with some reportedly taking to social media to share mixed reactions — including humorous posts — over the passing of a lecturer they described as notoriously strict.
