A prominent figure in the Kaduna State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Bashir Zakariya, has died in a fatal car crash along the Zaria–Kaduna highway on Thursday.
Until his untimely passing, Zakariya served as the SDP Chairman for the Zone One Senatorial District in the state.
According to party sources, the accident occurred while Zakariya was travelling from Zaria to Kaduna. He was reportedly killed on the spot following the tragic incident on the notoriously busy expressway.
In an official statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Zakariya was hailed as a man of unwavering integrity, courage, and foresight. The party praised his steadfast commitment to justice and democracy, noting that his leadership inspired many both within and outside the party.
“He stood for the truth, spoke with clarity of purpose, and worked diligently to strengthen the party’s presence across Zone One and beyond,” the statement read.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Kaduna SDP called on both the state and federal governments to take urgent action to curb the recurring fatal accidents on the Zaria–Kaduna highway, which remains one of the most accident-prone routes in the region.
