Suspected bandits unleashed terror on Zagami community in Yankara Ward, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, on Wednesday night, killing several residents and abducting numerous others, including women and children.
Security sources reported that the assailants stormed the village at approximately 8pm, opening fire indiscriminately on unsuspecting villagers.
In one of the most harrowing accounts from the attack, a three-day-old baby was reportedly killed, while the child’s mother was taken captive by the attackers.
Though the exact number of casualties and abductees remains unconfirmed, eyewitnesses described the onslaught as among the most brutal incidents in the area’s recent history.
As of press time, security agencies have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. However, local leaders and residents are urgently calling on federal and state authorities to strengthen security presence and prevent further bloodshed in the embattled region.
The attack underscores the persistent security challenges in Katsina State, particularly in Faskari LGA, a hotspot for banditry and rural violence despite repeated military operations in the zone.
