Speculation over the health of former APC National Chairman and ex-Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has intensified following reports suggesting he is in critical condition at a London hospital.

However, in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST on Monday, Ganduje’s Chief of Staff and former Kano State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Mohammed Garba, dismissed the claims, affirming that the 75-year-old politician is in London but remains in stable health.

“He is fine. At his age, it is not unusual to experience minor health issues, but contrary to the circulating reports, he is not critically ill,” Garba clarified.

Garba further explained that Ganduje has been in London since the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, a development which accounted for his absence at Buhari’s funeral.

“We spoke with him just last night. There is no cause for concern. Anyone can fall ill, but as far as I know, he is in good health,” he affirmed.

He also noted that if Ganduje’s condition had been critical, the family and associates would have had no reason to conceal it, stressing that such information would be shared to solicit prayers and support.

A family source, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, corroborated Garba’s account, dismissing the rumours as baseless.

“I have not spoken to him directly, but I’ve been in touch with those around him in London. There is no truth to the claims making the rounds. We are equally surprised by these unfounded reports,” the source stated.

Ganduje, who assumed leadership of the APC in 2023, later resigned, officially citing health reasons. However, his subsequent appointment as Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) fuelled fresh speculation — with some questioning the authenticity of his stated reasons for resignation, while others believe it is part of political manoeuvrings aimed at facilitating the return of his long-time rival, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the APC.
