The Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union (FIBSU) National Headquarters has launched an emergency appeal for urgent financial support to save the life of Ayinla Bakiyat Ashabi, a University of Ilorin student battling a critical spinal condition.
Bakiyat has been diagnosed with scoliosis, a severe spinal deformity requiring immediate surgical correction at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. The total cost of the operation is ₦3.5 million, detailed as follows:
Implants: ₦2,000,000
Surgical Fee: ₦500,000
Specialised Instrumentation: ₦500,000
Materials, Admission & Consumables: ₦500,000
Sadly, only ₦429,000 has been raised so far — a long way from the amount needed to secure the life-saving procedure.
Issuing a passionate appeal on Thursday, FIBSU National President, Comrade Giwa Kamorudeen, urged Nigerians — philanthropists, corporate organisations, alumni, Ibadan indigenes, and all compassionate individuals — to rally in support of Bakiyat.
“This is not just another fundraiser — this is a fight for life. Bakiyat’s condition demands urgent intervention. We’re calling on all well-meaning Nigerians to stand with us in this mission of hope. Every contribution, no matter how small, can help save her life,” Giwa declared.
The union assured the public of full transparency and accountability in managing all funds received, pledging regular updates on the fundraising efforts.
“We are united by compassion. This is a defining moment for us all — an opportunity to turn goodwill into action and offer hope to one of our own,” the union added.
