The Federal High Court of Nigeria has approved the establishment of a vacation court at its Enugu Division to handle urgent and sensitive legal matters across the South East geopolitical zone during the forthcoming judicial vacation.
The decision follows a formal request by the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Oji River Branch, Sir Chukwudi Olemeforo, via a letter dated 24 June 2025. The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Honourable Justice John Terhamba Tsoho, gave his approval after careful consideration of the merits of the appeal, particularly the imperative of ensuring continued access to justice during the court’s recess.
The vacation court sittings are scheduled to commence on Monday, 28 July 2025, and will continue through Tuesday, 16 September 2025.
The court, which will be presided over by Honourable Justice M. T. Segun-Bello, is designated to hear only urgent and sensitive matters arising from the five South East states: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.
In an official statement, the Court’s Director of Information, Mrs Catherine Oby Christopher, reaffirmed the Federal High Court’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the timely delivery of justice, even during vacation periods.
