EFCC Arrests 25 BUK Students Over Alleged Cybercrime Activities

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 25 undergraduate students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), in connection with suspected internet fraud.

The arrests were made during a sting operation conducted opposite the university’s New Site in Kano, following actionable intelligence on the students’ alleged involvement in cybercrime-related activities.

This development was disclosed on Wednesday via the Commission’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter).

“All the individuals arrested are confirmed undergraduate students of Bayero University, Kano,” the EFCC stated.

Items recovered during the operation include several mobile phones, laptops, internet routers, and a Honda Accord vehicle.

The suspects, arrested after weeks of discreet surveillance, are allegedly linked to offences ranging from internet fraud and identity theft to other financial scams.

The EFCC confirmed that the individuals will be formally charged upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
