Dele Momodu Resigns From PDP

Media mogul and prominent politician, Dele Momodu, has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s alleged capture by anti-democratic elements.

In a resignation letter dated 17 July 2025 and addressed to the PDP Chairman, Ward 4, Owan East Local Government Area, Edo State, Momodu attributed his exit to what he described as the party’s hijack by forces opposed to democratic ideals.

“I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, the PDP, with immediate effect. My reason is simple and straightforward — our party has, without doubt, been hijacked by anti-democratic forces, both from within and outside, in broad daylight,” the letter read in part.

Momodu further stated that it was honourable to walk away from what he termed the “carcass” of the PDP and join the emerging African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a credible coalition platform for democratic progressives.

“It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” he wrote.

He expressed gratitude to the party leaders and supporters who stood by him during his political journey, affirming that their support would remain a source of inspiration to him.

Momodu’s defection comes amid growing internal wrangling within the PDP, further fuelling speculation of an imminent political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
