Former Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has hinted at the possibility of contesting the 2027 presidential election—provided certain political variables fall into place.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed stated that he may throw his hat into the ring if Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and another prominent southern political figure opt not to run.

“I have tremendous respect for two individuals—Peter Obi and another I won’t name. If both decline to contest, and God Almighty wills it, then I may consider stepping in. Otherwise, I am not driven by personal ambition,” he said.

Reiterating his loyalty to Obi, Baba-Ahmed affirmed his readiness to back him again should he seek the presidency in 2027. “I supported Peter Obi wholeheartedly in 2023 and I would do so again,” he noted.

Highlighting his core motivation, he added: “My ambition is not for office. It is to halt the killings, end the looting, and arrest the steady decline of our nation.”

It was recalls that Baba-Ahmed ran alongside Obi in the 2023 general elections, where the Labour Party finished third, according to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
