Comrade Yunus Olamilekan Tomiwa of the Library and Information Science Department has emerged as the President-elect of Lens Polytechnic Offa in Kwara State for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The election, held yesterday at the institution’s permanent site, saw Olamilekan clinching victory with 190 votes, narrowly defeating his closest rival, Comrade Lawrence Benjamin Ayomiposi of the Mass Communication Department, who polled 188 votes.
The election is described as one of the closest Students’ Union Government (SUG) elections in the history of Lens Polytechnic, Offa.
Declaring the results, the Returning Officer, Dr. Yisa Azeez FCA, commended all contestants for their courage and commitment to student leadership.
“This election shows the strength of democratic participation on campus. I congratulate all the winners and urge them to build on the developmental strides and academic excellence set by their predecessors,” Dr. Azeez stated.
The proprietor of Lens Polytechnic also expressed disappointment over the low voter turnout, describing it as the lowest in the institution’s history.
He, however, praised the competitive spirit of the presidential candidates, noting that their close scores reflected the students’ confidence in both leaders.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Adebiyi, lauded the school management for fostering an environment where student unionism thrives, despite Lens Polytechnic being a private institution.
“This is a platform that allows students to not only excel academically but also develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills,” he said.
The election, which many described as peaceful and transparent, marks a new chapter for the student body as Olamilekan and his team prepare to steer the affairs of the union for the coming academic year.
