Osun

The body of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has been placed in an ambulance at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina, signalling the commencement of his final journey to Daura, his hometown.

Arriving earlier aboard a Nigerian Air Force jet from the United Kingdom — where he passed away on Sunday, 13 July 2025 — Buhari’s remains were received by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda.

Present at the solemn occasion were members of the Federal Executive Council, senior military officers, and dignitaries from across the federation, who paid their last respects as the body was moved into a waiting ambulance under heavy security escort.

The convoy has now departed for Daura, where Buhari will be laid to rest later today in accordance with Islamic rites.

Buhari, who first ruled Nigeria as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later served as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, died at the age of 82 after a brief illness.

Crowds have begun converging on Daura ahead of the burial, as tributes continue to pour in from across Nigeria and the international community.
