
The Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, has passed away.
His death was announced on Wednesday in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed, Mukhtar Gidado.
According to the statement, the late BASIEC chairman died on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, in Abuja after a brief illness.
Describing him as “a distinguished statesman, an accomplished public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian,” the statement noted that Hardawa’s career was marked by integrity, dedication, and fairness. He previously served as a Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa States.
Governor Bala Mohammed, in a tribute, said the deceased embodied wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership. He added that Hardawa’s contributions to credible electoral processes significantly strengthened democratic governance, particularly at the grassroots level.
The funeral prayer (Janazah) is scheduled to take place today, Wednesday, 30 July 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi.
