APC Zoning: North Central Tipped For National Chairmanship Slot

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly resolved to zone the position of National Chairman to the North Central geopolitical zone, paving the way for a potential successor to former chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Party insiders disclosed that this decision was arrived at following a series of high-level strategy meetings ahead of today’s National Executive Committee (NEC) gathering in Abuja.

Since Senator Adamu’s resignation on 27 June 2023, the North Central has intensified its push to reclaim the top party position, arguing that it deserves fair representation within the party hierarchy, especially after spearheading the APC’s 2023 presidential election victory.

While names continue to circulate, sources say Professor Nentawe Yilwatda – Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and former APC gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State – is under serious consideration. However, Newsbulletin Nigeria cannot independently verify this as at press time.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday night after a meeting between the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, noted that today’s NEC meeting will be “very brief” and primarily focused on the appointment of a new National Chairman.

When pressed on whether a consensus candidate will emerge, Uzodimma declined to confirm, saying: “We cannot say what the outcome will be. When you come there tomorrow (today), you will see it.”
