Renowned American musician and actor, David Kaffinetti, best known for his role as keyboardist Viv Savage in the 1984 cult classic mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, has passed away at the age of 79.
Kaffinetti’s passing was confirmed by his bandmates from Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom in a Facebook statement, announcing that he died peacefully in his sleep on Monday.
“Our brother, David Kaffinetti, peacefully passed away in his sleep yesterday. We are devastated by this event. Rest in peace, dear brother,” the tribute read.
Following his rise to fame in This Is Spinal Tap, Kaffinetti continued performing with the band at various events, including a memorable appearance on Saturday Night Live, before eventually moving on to collaborate with other musical groups.
