In the Iguomon community on the outskirts of Benin City, Edo State, a man believed to be a pastor and a woman reportedly married were subjected to public humiliation over accusations of infidelity.

A disturbing video circulating online on Monday shows the duo being stripped and taunted by a mob.

Eyewitnesses claim that the man was allegedly engaged in an extramarital affair with the woman before they were caught in a compromising situation. Reports indicate that a group of angry youths forcibly removed the man from a residence, completely stripped him, and made him sit on the ground. The woman was also pulled out, ridiculed, and eventually stripped naked by a female member of the crowd.

The incident attracted many onlookers, some of whom recorded the scene with their phones.

Reacting to the viral footage, activist Marxist Kola Edokpayi of the Talakawa Parliament condemned the mob action, emphasising the dangers of jungle justice.

“We condemn jungle justice in its entirety. What happened in that community cannot be justified. The matter should have been reported to the police for proper handling,” Edokpayi stated.

When contacted, Edo State Police Command spokesperson Moses Yamu said the police had not been officially informed about the incident.

“We cannot act based on a viral video alone. As of now, no report has been officially made to the police,” Yamu said.
