Residents of the Agan community in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Friday staged a peaceful protest over the worsening security situation in their area.

The demonstrators, mostly women, barricaded the federal highway near the Agan toll gate, wielding tree branches and chanting protest songs to express their anger and frustration at the government’s inaction.

A resident of the area, identified as Torkwase, confirmed to DAILY POST that the protest was still ongoing as of Friday afternoon.

“The protest is taking place at Agan Ward, near the toll gate,” she said during a telephone interview. “It is a response to the rising insecurity in the area. We are tired and demand swift intervention from the government.”

She further disclosed that security personnel had arrived at the scene, noting that the demonstration remained peaceful.

The protest highlights growing concerns among residents as incidents of violence and attacks persist in Agan and other parts of the state.
