In a strategic move ahead of the 2027 general elections, Nigeria’s main opposition coalition has formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This development marks a significant milestone in the coalition’s efforts to consolidate its forces and present a unified front. As part of the transition, several prominent political figures have been named to lead the party’s interim structure.
Former Senate President, David Mark, has emerged as the party’s National Chairman. Former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has been appointed as National Secretary, while ex-Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, will serve as the party’s National Spokesperson.
Initially, the coalition explored forming a new party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), following stalled negotiations with both the ADC and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). However, concerns over potential delays or denial of registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prompted the coalition to return to the ADC.
A formal unveiling ceremony is scheduled to take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
