Tragedy Strikes As Ondo Poly Final-Year Student Dies By Suspected Suicide

A somber mood has enveloped the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), following the death of a final-year student, Precious Arobo, who was found dead under tragic circumstances in Ondo State.

The 28-year-old, a Higher National Diploma (HND) II student, was discovered lifeless in a nearby bush close to his residence by local residents. His death is suspected to be a suicide, with sources claiming that a note was found at the scene, alluding to deep emotional distress — possibly linked to a failed relationship.

Although details surrounding the note remain sketchy, preliminary accounts suggest Arobo had been grappling with personal struggles prior to his demise.

Family members confirmed that the young man has since been buried. Relatives, classmates, and friends, who are still reeling from the news, described him as soft-spoken, kind-hearted, and deeply committed to his studies.

“It’s heartbreaking. He was a good person. His parents are completely devastated,” a close family source shared.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, SP Ayanlade Olayinka, said authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the student’s death.

As the investigation continues, the tragic loss of Precious Arobo serves as a painful reminder of the silent battles many young people face — and the urgent need for more robust mental health support systems within academic institutions.
