Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South has voiced concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s growing detachment from the country’s harsh realities, blaming it on the influence of close aides who shield him from the truth.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ndume criticized the state of governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the pace of development has left many Nigerians frustrated.
“Things are not going the way they should, and even Mr. President has admitted that,” he said. “But what we keep hearing is that Nigerians should be patient. My question is—how long can people continue to endure?”
Ndume accused some of Tinubu’s advisers of distorting the truth and feeding the president only favorable narratives.
“Those around him only tell him what he wants to hear, not what is actually happening,” he said. “The only adviser I can commend is Sunday Dare. He speaks the truth and understands the president because of their longstanding relationship.”
The senator also raised alarm over the growing influence of unelected individuals, claiming that a group has effectively hijacked the administration.
“There are people who have taken over the government. They are the ones making the decisions. Only what they approve gets implemented,” he alleged.
Despite his criticism, Ndume clarified that his remarks were not personal.
“I have no problem with the president. He is my president. But when something is wrong, I will speak up. That’s my duty,” he said.
Ndume’s comments come amid increasing public pressure on the APC-led government to address rising inflation, worsening insecurity, and the soaring cost of living.
