Panic and grief have gripped the community of Ido Aiyegunle in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State following a deadly attack by unknown gunmen. The violent invasion, which occurred today, has left no fewer than 100 residents injured, with several others feared dead.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants stormed the village in large numbers, unleashing terror on unsuspecting residents. Some victims were reportedly thrown into wells, and as of Thursday evening, many of them have been confirmed dead. Others were allegedly abducted by the attackers, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

In addition to the loss of lives, several houses were set ablaze during the attack, leaving dozens of families homeless and traumatized.

Preliminary reports indicate that the attackers came from the nearby town of Esa-Oke. It was gathered that they used their usual route, one they often take when planning such attacks, and were seen passing through it yesterday.

The tragic incident has sparked outrage and fear among residents of Obokun LGA and neighboring communities.

Local leaders and residents are now calling on the Osun State Government and security agencies to take urgent action to investigate the incident, apprehend the perpetrators, and prevent further attacks.

“This is a dark day for our community. We urge the state government to ensure that those responsible for this senseless violence are brought to justice,” a community elder said.

As at press time, state authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
