At least ten people lost their lives, and several others were injured in a fatal road accident on Tuesday along the Sanyo–Soka axis of the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway.
The tragic incident involved seven vehicles: four trailers, four commercial Micra taxis, and a Toyota Camry. The accident scene, which was shared in a video posted on the verified Facebook page of Success FM, drew public attention due to its intensity and scale.
According to eyewitness accounts, the accident began when a trailer attempted to reverse out of an abandoned filling station near Soka and was struck by an oncoming trailer. The collision triggered a series of crashes, as three more trailers following behind rammed into the vehicles ahead, crushing several smaller cars.
One of the Micra taxis was completely destroyed, leading to the deaths of the driver and three passengers. A couple who had boarded a Micra from Sanyo were also caught in the wreckage — the wife died instantly, while the husband survived with minor injuries.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and personnel from the Sanyo Police Division responded promptly to the scene, evacuating victims and restoring order.
Oyo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mrs. Rosemary Alo, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan. She noted that while ten persons were confirmed dead, one individual was still receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
“The injured victims were initially rescued by officers from Sanyo Police Station. The corpses have been deposited at the Adeoyo morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan,” she stated.
Commander Alo further disclosed that one of the deceased was handed over to relatives with the authorization of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sanyo, while the Divisional Traffic Officer, Oluwole Adesina, is now overseeing the recovery of the damaged vehicles.
This latest crash marks the sixth major fatal accident reported along this corridor in 2025. Authorities are once again calling on motorists, particularly commercial drivers and heavy-duty operators, to exercise extreme caution and adhere strictly to safety protocols while driving.
