The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled power outage across multiple states in the northeast as part of construction activities at the Bauchi 330kV substation.
According to a notice signed by TCN’s Regional Operations Manager for the Bauchi Region, Engr. J.O. Joseph, the outage will commence at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, and is expected to last until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
The interruption is necessitated by ongoing efforts to erect new 330kV Turn-In and Turn-Out transmission towers, a critical phase in the development of the new substation. The work will also involve the temporary shutdown of the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV transmission line to allow for its safe crossing.
The outage will impact the Jos–Gombe single circuit line throughout the five days, resulting in a complete loss of electricity supply to Damaturu, Molai, Yola, and Jalingo. However, Gombe and Biu substations will maintain partial power via the Dadin Kowa Hydropower Plant, while the Baga Road substation will continue to receive supply from the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP).
On June 14, the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV line will be fully de-energised to allow the final crossing works to be executed.
This planned outage follows a major blackout in October 2024, which plunged 17 northern states into darkness after a system collapse involving the 330kV Ugwaji–Apir double circuit lines.
TCN has assured stakeholders that efforts are underway to minimise disruption and expedite the completion of the substation works, which are aimed at enhancing grid reliability across the region.
