President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law four pivotal tax reform bills, officially transforming the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) into the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS).
The newly enacted legislations—the Nigeria Tax Bill, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill—mark a significant overhaul of Nigeria’s tax framework.
According to President Tinubu, these reforms are designed to deliver Nigeria’s first substantial pro-people tax reliefs, targeting low-income earners, small enterprises, and households grappling with the rising cost of living. He emphasized that the bills represent a bold step towards building a more equitable and growth-driven economy.
Implementation of the new tax laws is slated to begin on January 1, 2026.
