Suspected Herdsmen Kill Chief on Farmland In Ogun State

Makurdi, Benue State – Suspected armed Fulani herdsmen reportedly launched a coordinated attack on the Mbaivur community in Mbahimin, a locality situated close to the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

According to local sources, the assailants stormed Tse Hyiongo, a settlement within the Mbaivur area, late Saturday night and continued their onslaught into the early hours of Sunday, sparking widespread fear and chaos among residents.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that gunfire echoed throughout the community for several hours, forcing terrified residents to flee their homes in a desperate bid for safety.

“The entire village was thrown into confusion,” a resident said. “We kept hearing gunshots all night. People ran in different directions to escape.”

The prolonged nature of the attack, witnesses noted, raised questions over the absence of immediate response from security operatives, despite the proximity of the military base to the affected area.

As of press time, the number of casualties remained unconfirmed, and efforts to reach security authorities for an official statement were unsuccessful.

The attack is the latest in a string of violent incidents linked to suspected herdsmen in Benue State, a region that has remained a hotspot in Nigeria’s prolonged farmer-herder conflict.
