The Sokoto State Government has declared its readiness to engage in dialogue with repentant bandits willing to embrace peace, as part of broader efforts to restore lasting security across the state.
In an official statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, retired Colonel Ahmed Usman, the government emphasized that it remains committed to resolving insecurity not only through military efforts but also through constructive engagement and reconciliation.
“Throughout history, many conflicts have been resolved through means beyond force alone. This is why the Sokoto State Government is keeping its doors open to dialogue with any armed group prepared to surrender their weapons and reintegrate into society peacefully,” the statement read.
The government stressed that reconciliation is a key step toward rebuilding trust and ensuring the safety of communities ravaged by violence. It called on armed groups to take the opportunity to choose the path of peace.
The statement also conveyed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria’s national security chiefs, and all military and police personnel for their ongoing sacrifices in securing lives and property within Sokoto and beyond.
“We are grateful for their unwavering commitment. May Allah grant eternal rest to the souls of those who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, and may He strengthen their families in their grief,” the statement concluded.
