Former Senator Shehu Sani has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to decline the recent decision to rename the Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC) after him.
This follows an announcement by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, revealing that the facility will henceforth be known as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
Speaking during the commissioning of the renovated complex, Wike further disclosed that other key halls within the facility have also been renamed in honour of Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Chief Justice of Nigeria Olukayode Ariwoola.
In response, Senator Sani, via a post on his official Facebook page, stated that the ICC was originally constructed under the administration of former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), and therefore should retain its historic identity.
“The International Conference Centre, Abuja, was built by IBB. The President should reject renaming the place with his name,” Sani wrote.
