In a surprising development amid ongoing internal tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Malam Yusuf Abubakar Dingyadi, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the National Chairman, has formally resigned from his position.
Dingyadi, a seasoned media strategist and vocal party advocate, confirmed his resignation in a letter dated June 25, 2025, addressed to the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum. In the letter, he expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, stating:
“While I appreciate the support and prayers of the PDP family during my stay in this office, I remain appreciative of all the contributions given to me to ensure the success of my assignment.”
Although he did not disclose specific reasons for stepping down, his exit comes at a delicate time for the PDP, which is currently grappling with internal party squabbles and a credibility challenge.
Dingyadi had served in the office for over three years, gaining recognition for his consistent media engagements across radio, television, and print platforms. His voice was a familiar presence defending and promoting the party’s positions during a critical period of its evolution.
A veteran of Nigeria’s political communications landscape, Dingyadi was instrumental in the PDP’s campaign efforts during the Obasanjo/Atiku era and previously served under the late Minister of Communications, Arzika Tambuwal. He also played prominent roles in the media arms of various political formations, including the People’s Front (PF), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Democratic People’s Party (DPP), and the administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
His departure marks the end of an era for the PDP’s media machinery, with insiders suggesting that his absence may create a strategic gap ahead of critical political realignments.
