The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed a gruesome incident in which a 55-year-old man, identified as Hamidu Ali, allegedly killed his wife with a machete and fled the scene.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the tragic event occurred in Koriyel Village, Babangida, Tarmuwa Local Government Area, on June 28, 2025, at about 11 a.m.
“Hamidu Ali, aged 55, attacked and macheted his 40-year-old wife to death for reasons yet to be determined before fleeing to an unknown destination,” the statement read.
Police authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend him and bring him to justice.
In a separate development, the Command announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with a fatal mob attack in Ngalda Town, Fika LGA. The suspects, Musa Sule (25) and Muntari Suleman (30), were arrested by operatives of the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters on June 27, 2025, at about 5 p.m.
The duo allegedly lynched a victim over accusations of stealing a cellphone and power bank. Police say the suspects confessed to the crime, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution. One additional suspect remains at large.
Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the spate of jungle justice and reiterated the importance of upholding the rule of law.
“We appeal to the good people of Yobe State to promote peaceful resolution of conflicts and support law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order in their communities,” he said.
CP Ado further warned against the arbitrary use of force under the pretext of seeking justice, urging the public to channel grievances through lawful means.
