The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Adekimi Ojo, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fostering a cordial and professional relationship with journalists operating within the state.
Ojo gave the assurance during an interactive session with members of the press held on Sunday at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ilorin. He emphasized the importance of an open communication channel between the media and the police, describing journalists as vital intermediaries between law enforcement and the public.
In response to concerns raised during the engagement, the commissioner revealed that the police command’s X-Squad would be revitalised to strengthen internal oversight and monitor the conduct of officers and men across the state.
Addressing the controversial issue of suspect parades, Ojo noted that the practice has been discontinued in line with directives from the Inspector General of Police, underscoring the principle that suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
He appealed to media practitioners to continue supporting the police in executing their constitutional duties, stressing that the successes of the command can only be effectively communicated to the public through responsible journalism.
The event was attended by senior officers, including Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and other top-ranking members of the Kwara State Police Command.
