The Lafiagi community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State was gripped by fear in the early hours of Sunday following the abduction of a prominent agro-chemical dealer widely known as Alhaji Chemical.
The victim was reportedly seized from his residence in the Taiwo area of the town around 1:00 a.m. by a gang of heavily armed men suspected to be Fulani bandits.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, overpowered the local vigilante team with superior firepower before abducting the businessman and fleeing to an unknown location.
Community sources indicated that the assailants appeared to have deliberately targeted the victim, raising concerns that the abduction was premeditated and strategically executed.
The incident has further deepened anxiety among residents, who are already troubled by the deteriorating security situation in Lafiagi and surrounding areas.
Local voices have called on security operatives to intensify efforts to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe release of Alhaji Chemical, while also implementing broader measures to stem the surge in abductions destabilizing the region.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, went unanswered.
