The Kwara State Government has commenced the mapping and acquisition of land in preparation for the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Mass Housing Programme, which aims to deliver 100 housing units in each of the 774 local government areas across the country.
This initiative, being implemented under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, is a collaborative effort between the Federal and Kwara State Governments to expand access to affordable and quality housing for Nigerians.
During a strategic engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders in the selected areas, the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, emphasized the significance of the exercise. He noted that the visit, undertaken with technical teams from the ministry and the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KW-GIS), marked a critical stage in actualizing the administration’s housing goals.
A statement issued on Saturday by Kunle Gbadeyan, Press Secretary to the Ministry, quoted the commissioner as appreciating the ongoing cooperation of the host communities and reaffirming Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to improving living standards across the state.
“The housing scheme will directly benefit the people in the selected communities and enhance the broader housing infrastructure of the state,” the statement said.
Community leaders lauded the government’s developmental strides and appealed for greater involvement of local contractors and businesses in the project’s implementation phase.
Communities already surveyed include Ajase Ipo, Erin Ile, Offa, Oke Onigbin, Ekan Meje, and Osi, located within Irepodun, Oyun, Offa, Isin, Oke Ero, and Ekiti Local Government Areas.
Earlier, the delegation had inspected sites in Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas, where Dr. Ogunsola assessed land parcels designated for the housing scheme.
Speaking at the palace of the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Omar, the commissioner reiterated the state’s resolve to bridge the housing deficit through strategic partnerships. He also solicited continued support from local stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Responding on behalf of the emir, the Waziri of Kaiama, Alhaji Adamu Gene, commended the governor for prioritizing grassroots development.
Similarly, at Ilesha-Baruba, the Emir, Prof. Halidu Abubakar, expressed gratitude for the inclusion of the community in the project, noting that it would complement the newly completed campus of Kwara State University in the area and drive further development.
