Kwara: 17-Year-Old Boy Allegedly Stabs Stepmother To Death In Ilorin

A 17-year-old boy identified simply as Malik has been accused of stabbing his father’s wife, Falilat Yusuf, to death in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Danialu, Gaa Akanbi area, shortly after the conclusion of Juma’at prayers.

According to eyewitness accounts, Malik allegedly attacked the deceased—popularly known in the neighbourhood as Iya Ganiyat—at her residence, inflicting multiple stab wounds on her neck. A neighbour, who declined to be named, said: “I heard people screaming and rushing to the house. She was stabbed several times. The boy is said to be the son of her husband’s concubine. He has since been arrested and taken to the police station.”

Sources revealed that Malik’s mother, reportedly poised to become the second wife of the deceased woman’s husband, lived in a separate apartment nearby, also rented by the man.

One of the deceased’s sons, Teslim, said the suspect had been previously barred from entering the house due to repeated incidents of theft. “When our eyes met, he took off. I entered and found my mother lying in a pool of blood. I shouted, and neighbours came to assist,” he recounted.

He added that Malik later returned wearing different clothes, but traces of blood were found on his shoes. He was subsequently apprehended and handed over to the police.

Another resident, Mrs Omotayo, disclosed that the deceased, who was a potato seller, had left her shop earlier in the day due to escalating tension and threats.

The body of Falilat Yusuf was laid to rest according to Islamic rites.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Ejire Adeyemi Adetoun, said she could not confirm the incident at the time and requested a message. As of the time of filing this report, she had yet to respond to the text sent to her.
