Kidnappers have demanded a ransom of ₦1 billion for the release of a Chinese expatriate, Mr. Sam Xie Wie, and his Nigerian colleague, Mr. David Adenaiye, who were abducted during an attack on a mining site in Kwara State.

The ransom demand was disclosed in a post on Friday by security analyst Zagazola Makama via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

According to Makama, the kidnappers used the victims’ mobile phones to contact an associate identified as Mr. Leo Liang, demanding the sum in exchange for their release.

The abduction occurred on Wednesday during a violent assault on the mining facility, which also claimed the lives of two members of the Police Mobile Force assigned to protect the expatriates.

Makama added that a combined team of security operatives and local vigilantes has launched a search-and-rescue operation aimed at securing the safe return of the abducted individuals.
