Award-winning Afrobeats artist, Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has opened up about the personal tragedies that inspired his latest single, Al-Jannah.
In a recent podcast interview, the singer reflected on the profound losses he has experienced over the years and how they shaped the emotional depth of his tribute track.
“When my dad was alive, he was my best friend,” Kizz Daniel revealed. “Al-Jannah means ‘paradise’. I wanted to write a song that pays tribute—not just to one person, but to all the loved ones we’ve lost along life’s journey.”
The artist went on to share the grief he and his family have endured. “We lost our son in 2021. I lost my dad in 2015. My wife lost her mother earlier this year, in 2024. I also lost my stepmother. It’s been a lot.”
According to Kizz Daniel, the decision to use the word friend in the lyrics was deliberate and deeply symbolic. “I think I was able to accomplish my goal by framing the loss in terms of friendship. That word carried the emotion I needed.”
Kizz Daniel’s father passed away on May 9, 2015, just days after the singer marked his 21st birthday. The song Al-Jannah now serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring impact of those no longer here—and a heartfelt message to anyone grieving a personal loss.
