— Lauds late Prof. Mosobalaje Oyawoye for legacy of academic, community impact
The four-day sickle cell awareness campaign organised by the Kudirat Adebisi Oyawoye Foundation continued on a high note in Ipee, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State, with the royal endorsement of His Royal Highness, Oba Muftau Adebayo Lawal Titiloye III, the Onipee of Ipee Land.
The monarch, who received the foundation’s team at his palace before the commencement of the programme, commended the Co-founder, Fatima Oyawoye, her team, and the volunteers for bringing critical health services to the grassroots.
Oba Titiloye also took a moment to pay tribute to Fatima’s late father, renowned geologist and elder statesman, Professor Jimoh Mosobalaje Oyawoye, recalling his outstanding academic legacy and contributions to community development during his lifetime.
“We are proud of what the Kudirat Adebisi Oyawoye Foundation is doing for our people.
“Fatima is continuing her father’s legacy of service to humanity. Prof. Mosobalaje Oyawoye was a man of great intellect and humility, and it is heartwarming to see his daughter following in his footsteps,” he said.
The health outreach, themed “Shining the Light on Sickle Cell Disease (Adebisi, Know Your Status),” featured free sickle cell testing, ABO blood typing, malaria testing and treatment, as well as health education and interactive activities.
In a show of support, Oba Titiloye delegated two of his chiefs to represent the palace at the event. He later joined the community members at the venue and again received the Foundation’s team after the outreach concluded.
Speaking at the event, Fatima Oyawoye reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to raising awareness about sickle cell and encouraging early genotype testing, especially among young people.
“This initiative is not just about health screenings; it’s about giving people knowledge, power, and confidence to live healthy, informed lives,” she said.
With a target of 1,000 individuals over four days, the Foundation’s outreach continues to Esie in Irepodun Local Government Area as it marks this year’s World Sickle Cell Day through community engagement and healthcare access.
