The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has firmly refuted claims suggesting a plot to unlawfully extend the tenure of Mr. Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, Permanent Secretary representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In response to online media reports alleging the involvement of the Minister of Defence and the Head of Service in an attempt to prolong Mr. Aduda’s tenure beyond legal limits, the OHCSF described the assertions as baseless and misleading.
“There is no request, plan, or consideration to extend the tenure of Mr. Aduda or any other Permanent Secretary outside the provisions of the Public Service Rules,” the statement, signed by Mrs. Eno Olotu, Director of Information and Public Relations at the OHCSF, stated.
The OHCSF emphasised its commitment to due process, citing Rule 020909 (b) of the revised 2021 Public Service Rules, which stipulates that a Permanent Secretary shall serve a four-year term, renewable for another four years based on satisfactory performance, without exception.
“These rules are binding and consistently enforced across the Civil Service. There will be no deviation,” the statement affirmed.
Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, reiterated her dedication to the principles of meritocracy, transparency, and accountability, assuring the public that all personnel decisions within the service are handled in strict compliance with established regulations.
She urged the public to disregard unfounded reports, warning against the circulation of misinformation capable of undermining trust in the civil service.
“We advise citizens to rely solely on official communication channels for accurate and verified information,” the statement concluded.
