Highlife Legend Mike Ejeagha Dies At 95

Veteran highlife musician and cultural icon Mike Ejeagha has died at the age of 95. Renowned for weaving traditional proverbs and storytelling into his music, Ejeagha was a towering figure in the evolution of Igbo highlife.

He reportedly passed away on Friday around 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu, following a long battle with illness. His death was confirmed by his eldest son, Emma Ejeagha.

Born on April 4, 1930, Ejeagha began his music career in the mid-20th century and became a significant influence on Igbo-language music, earning admiration for his lyrical depth and cultural preservation.

His popularity soared in 1972 when he was invited by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) to host the Igbo-language program Akuko Na Egwu, further cementing his role as a cultural ambassador.

Mike Ejeagha is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
