Prominent human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has criticized the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying they primarily benefit the wealthy while worsening conditions for the majority of Nigerians.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Falana said many Nigerians are facing severe hardship despite claims by government officials that the country is making progress.
He noted that while top officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been celebrating the president’s second anniversary in office, the reality for most citizens is one of deepening economic hardship.
“For members of the government—and I’m talking of top officials—it’s been very rosy. One of them was even singing a week ago that things are getting better,” Falana said.
“Of course, for the rich, the bourgeoisie, things are getting better. But for the masses of our people, things are getting tougher because they are going through an excruciating economic crisis,” he added.
Since assuming office two years ago, President Tinubu has introduced several economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange rates—policies Falana argues have disproportionately hurt the poor.
