President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cancelled the national broadcast earlier scheduled for Thursday, June 12, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), which had initially indicated that the President would address the nation in a televised broadcast.
However, a subsequent update signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the OSGF, confirmed the cancellation, citing the President’s commitment to attend the National Assembly’s Joint Session on the same day.
“Due to H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled attendance at the National Assembly Joint Session, the Presidential National Broadcast on June 12 has been cancelled,” the statement read.
The OSGF further noted that the President’s address to the nation will now be delivered from the National Assembly, reaffirming that all other Democracy Day activities remain unchanged.
President Tinubu’s participation at the Joint Session is part of broader commemorations recognizing Nigeria’s democratic journey since the return to civilian rule in 1999.
