A High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the gruesome murder of Salome Adaidu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Ajayi was convicted on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code applicable in Northern Nigeria, which mandates the death penalty upon conviction.
Delivering judgment, Justice Simon Aboki held that the prosecution had proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Ajayi deliberately murdered and dismembered the corps member.
The court, therefore, imposed the maximum sentence provided by law.
