A government-certified pathologist, Dr. Sanni Ayodele Daniel, has confirmed that 12-year-old Desola Whitney Adeniran, a student of Chrisland Schools, died from electrocution—debunking earlier speculations of natural or drug-related causes.
The revelation came during the resumed coroner’s inquest on Friday at the Ikeja Magistrate Court (Suit No. MCIK/CONA/1/2023), where Dr. Daniel, a consultant pathologist, presented the official autopsy findings.
He testified that Whitney suffered asphyxia caused by electrical shock, citing internal and external indicators such as cerebral oedema, subpleural petechial hemorrhages, electric burn on the right knee, and signs of bodily shock, including conjunctival petechiae and grazed abrasions.
> “There was no pre-existing health condition or drug reaction. The pattern of injury confirms she was electrocuted,” Dr. Daniel stated under oath.
Legal representatives for Whitney’s family—Oluwatodimu Ige, Esq., Obiechina Justin, Esq., and Oluwabusayomi Gbadegesin, Esq.—were present at the proceedings, alongside counsel from the Lagos State Attorney General’s Office and officials from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
Notably absent were representatives from Chrisland Schools and Mr. Ademoye Adewale, the vendor allegedly linked to the equipment involved in the tragic incident. Despite receiving hearing notices, both parties failed to appear, drawing sharp criticism from observers and legal practitioners in attendance.
Following the testimony and a preliminary cross-examination, the magistrate adjourned the hearing to August 8, 2025, for continuation of proceedings and further cross-examination by the absent defense counsel.
