Final-year students of Gyutiev Model College, Saghev Ward, Guma Local Government Area, have reportedly set fire to the residence of their principal, Mr. Isaac Yina, after accusing him of failing to register them for the 2025 NECO examination despite collecting fees.
According to local sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday. The aggrieved students allege that Mr. Yina collected ₦85,000 from each of the 178 candidates but failed to remit the funds or complete their registration for the National Examinations Council (NECO) exams.
Efforts to reach the Benue State Police Command were ongoing as of press time. When contacted, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Udeme Edet, said she had not yet received a formal report on the incident but assured that an investigation would be launched once confirmed.
This development adds to the tension in Guma LGA, which has been in the spotlight following a recent attack in Yelwata community that claimed over 200 lives.
