Just six months after calling off an indefinite strike based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Sa’adu Zungur University has accused the university management of reneging on the agreement.
In a statement released after its recent congress and signed by branch chairman Comrade Auwal Nuhu and assistant secretary Comrade Yahaya Yakubu, the union expressed disappointment over what it described as deliberate delays by the university in implementing the MoU.
“The congress noted with concern the university administration’s deliberate attempts to undermine the progress of the MoU within the agreed timeframe.
“Half of the MoU period has elapsed, yet a large portion of outstanding claims remain unpaid, despite the university receiving increased funding in recent months,” the statement read.
ASUU further accused management of evasiveness, frequently changing deadlines, and withholding essential information related to arrears verification—actions the union interprets as deliberate tactics to stall the full execution of the agreement.
The union also alleged that the university has withheld members’ salaries as part of this delay strategy. Nevertheless, ASUU reaffirmed its commitment to press for full compliance with the MoU.
Attempts to obtain comments from the university’s spokesperson, Auwal Hassan, were unsuccessful as he did not respond by the time of this report.
