APC Stakeholders Accuse Makinde of Fiscal Indiscipline, Demand Transparency in Oyo State Spending

Key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Outer City Zone of Ibadanland, Oyo State, have strongly criticised Governor Seyi Makinde over what they described as persistent financial recklessness and a lack of fiscal discipline in the management of state resources.

Rising from their quarterly strategic meeting held on Wednesday at the APC Secretariat in Egbeda Local Government Area, the party leaders issued a communique expressing deep concern over the governor’s alleged penchant for extravagant expenditure without adherence to due process.

Central to their grievances are two high-profile state projects which they claim reflect mismanagement: the proposed N63.5 billion renovation of the Agodi Government House and the N14.3 billion disbursement for the purchase of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) for Ladoke Akintola Airport. The latter, according to the stakeholders, had previously attracted a full payment of N42 billion, followed by an additional N10 billion from state coffers—raising questions over financial accountability.

“Oyo State cannot be said to be financially stable, yet the current administration continues to plunge the state into debt with projects that lack transparency and strategic foresight,” the communique stated. “Governor Makinde receives over N22 billion in federal allocations and nearly N10 billion in internally generated revenue monthly. With the state’s debt burden now hovering around N500 billion, this trajectory is unsustainable.”

The APC stakeholders called for the prioritisation of critical infrastructure and investment in sustainable development initiatives, especially with additional revenues accruing from the removal of fuel subsidies. They further urged the governor to align state expenditure with the realities of Oyo’s fiscal position.

Among the signatories to the communique were prominent party figures including Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe (JP), Alhaji Rasaki Akilapa, Chief Lekan Adeyemo, Alhaji Sule Suara, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, Hon. Kunle Jenrade, Comrade Moshood Erubami, Hon. Muniru Adebayo, Alhaji Yinka Folarin, and Bashorun Billy Ogundele.

Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, was in attendance to lend support to the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts.

A key highlight of the meeting was a presentation by the APC Peace Advocates—a coalition of party loyalists led by Chief Wale Ohu and Prince Niran Adeyoju—who stressed the importance of unity, internal cohesion, and strategic collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections. The group urged all stakeholders to rally around the party’s mission to reclaim governance in the state.

The communique concluded with a resounding call for accountability, responsible governance, and the repositioning of the APC as a credible alternative in Oyo State.
