Nigeria’s sprint hurdling sensation and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, has reclaimed her status as the nation’s highest-ranked female athlete, surging back into the top 100 of the World Athletics women’s overall rankings.
After falling out of the elite bracket last year for the first time since the global ranking system was introduced in 2019—where she debuted at No. 96—Amusan has risen to 88th position with a score of 1366 points.
Her resurgence is attributed to a string of dominant performances this season, including two 12.45-second finishes and a season-best 12.24s at the 2025 Paris Diamond League, where she placed second behind America’s Grace Stark. That time marks her fastest since her world-record-breaking 12.12s run in Oregon, USA, in 2022.
Amusan’s upward momentum has also seen her surpass sprinter Favour Ofili, who had ended 2024 as Nigeria’s top-ranked female athlete but has now dropped to 175th.
In the 100m hurdles category, Amusan has returned to the global top 10, currently sitting ninth after closing last year in 13th place. With her form peaking ahead of major competitions, she is well-positioned to replicate—or even exceed—her career-defining 2022 season, when she was ranked the world’s top sprint hurdler and fifth overall among female athletes.
