The ALM Foundation has disclosed it has concluded plans to commemorate this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with a public awareness event.
According to the foundation, the event is aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles and combating the menace of substance abuse in the society.
According to the letter of invitation signed by the Foundation’s Director, Muhammad Bashir Oluaye, and Secretary, Soliu Mubarak, the programme is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Offa Descendants Union (ODU) Small Hall, Offa, Kwara State, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Themed “Healthy Lives, Healthy Futures,” the event will bring together health professionals, drug control agencies, and community leaders to share knowledge and insights on tackling drug abuse and supporting victims on the path to recovery.
The duo revealed that top invited guests include the Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aminat El-Imam; the Chief Medical Director of Offa General Hospital; representatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA); and the Dean of Student Affairs of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa.
The speakers will address critical topics such as: “The role of community support in overcoming addiction”, Strategies for preventing substance abuse among youth, “The impact of drug abuse on mental health” and “Effective ways to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce drug demand”
The Foundation emphasized that the goal of the programme is to raise awareness, encourage community involvement, and spark meaningful dialogue among stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse.
“We believe your presence would greatly contribute to the success of this event. Together, let’s work towards a healthier and brighter future for all,” the letter read.
The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed globally every year on June 26, as declared by the United Nations, to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
