Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi Adato

As I mark the milestone of two years of my legislative assignment as Honourable Member elected to represent Ojomu Balogun Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly, I would like to start off by giving all the glory to God for the journey so far. Even though I have a thousand tongues it is not enough to show my appreciation to the sovereign Lord, the eternal King, the righteous Judge and the Creator of the heaven and earth. I thank the Almighty God for my journey and political adventure as a democractically elected representative of my constituency. I wish to sincerely thank the esteemed people of Ojomu Balogun Constituency of Offa for giving me the mandate and opportunity to serve them. Over the past two years, I have remained sensitive and concern about their interest, needs, and aspirations as a people who truly deserve the best.

I would attempt to chronicle my activities and accomplishments under the themes covered below.

LAWMAKING:
During the period under review, I have contributed actively to the bill drafting processes, during debates, and amendment or enactment of laws that promote the interest, wellbeing, and prosperity of not only my constituents but the generality of Kwarans. I have also been very active in committees’ activities supporting my overall legislative duties. My participation and contributions to several notable pieces of legislations in the form of bills, motions, or matters of general public importance has been truly noteworthy. It cut across issues such as climate change, drug and substance abuse, health and educational sector reforms, public transport reforms, public safety and many others.

REPRESENTATION:
As one elected to represent the people of Ojomu Balogun Constituency, I have consistently prioritized their needs and interests and I have seized every opportunity within and outside the legislative chamber to draw the attention of relevant institutional or governmental agencies to the issues affecting my constituency. I am mindful that my duties as an elected representative of the people transcend the legislative chamber. Through constituency interaction, community engagement activities such as visits and meetings, I have consistently made myself available and accessible for the people including leaders and stakeholders of my constituency on issues that they need to interface and address with me from time to time.

OVERSIGHT:
In the course of my two years in office, I have participated in legislative activities that monitor and scrutinize the actions of the executive branch through oversight visit, legislative hearing and question time. This is an important aspect of our legislative duties which helps ensure accountability, prevent abuse of power and privileges and also promote good governance.

BUDGET APPROPRIATION:
In the period under review, I have participated in two budget circles to review the State spending proposals, amend and align it to meet the needs and yearning of our people. I have leveraged this opportunity to lobby and advocate for government attention to address the specific needs and interests of my constituency. Particularly, I have been instrumental in lobbying for projects such as school renovation, revamping and equipping of health facilities, road maintenance and construction, and also intervention to improve access to electricity for my constituency.

The record of achievements that I proudly outline above couldn’t have been a reality without the support and leadership of our dynamic Governor. My special appreciation also goes to the Speaker of the 10th Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Engr. Salihu Yakubu Danladi for his leadership and unwavering focus in rallying the house under a stable, conducive, and effective atmosphere.
