Firefighters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Sunday rescued a 68-year-old man who fell into a well while trying to retrieve his mobile phone.
The incident occurred in the early hours of June 8 in the Imalenfalafia area of Oke-Ado, at Mobolorunduro Mosque, where the man had reportedly dropped his phone and attempted to recover it without assistance.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said a distress call was received at exactly 6:10 a.m., prompting the swift deployment of fire personnel to the location.
“On arrival, our team found the victim trapped inside a deep well,” Akinwande stated. “He had gone in alone to retrieve his lost phone. Our men immediately began rescue operations, securing the necessary knots and taking all safety precautions.”
The man was successfully rescued alive and later handed over to his family for further care.
