Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has revealed new details about his recent conversation with former U.S. President Donald Trump during a private meeting at the Vatican, saying Trump appears to be reassessing his stance on the war in Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters, Zelenskyy said, “I am confident that after our meeting in the Vatican, President Trump began to look at things a little differently. We’ll see. That’s his vision, his choice in any case.”

The two leaders met for 15 minutes on the sidelines of Pope Francis’ funeral, in what Zelenskyy described as their most productive discussion to date.

According to Zelenskyy, both he and Trump agreed that a 30-day ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow would be a vital first step toward ending the conflict. Zelenskyy also raised the issue of sanctions against Russia, describing Trump’s response as “very strong.”

The White House characterized the encounter as “very productive.”
